Please note, spoilers ahead.
It has been a long, hard slog but finally (finally!) the eighth (and hopefully penultimate) season of How I Met Your Mother Has finally finished.
This show, which was once novel and energetically entertaining is now a poor caricature of itself. The character development is overly contrived and there is practically no funny moments, which the ridiculously over the top laugh track only amplifies.
Each episode has a metaphor and as the years have gone by, they have become increasingly laboured.
The end of season revelation of “the mother” was thoroughly underwhelming and the fact they chose to reference her in the credits as “woman with yellow umbrella” was also thoroughly underwhelming and an attempt to keep the audience guessing whether or not that was the mother. But truth be told, I was more interested in how someone could keep the same umbrella in perfect condition for the best part of a decade.
This is a show well past its best and that needs to die. The sad thing is, I will probably watch the next season as well.
