Accepted is a ridiculous 2006 comedy. The plot revolves around a group of friends who one reason or another fail to get into college. They lie to their parents about getting accepted to a fictional college and then, due to a technical malfunction they end up running their own college.
Yes, the plot is ridiculous, but it works hard to make it seem less so, upping the ante one step at a time to make it seem at least vaguely plausible. But at the end of the day, it is the comedy that makes this film worth watching. It is hilariously funny.
It is basically a showcase for a number of up and coming performers, including Justin Long, pre-Superbad Jonah Hill, Blake Lively, alongside veterans Anthony Heald (Silence of The Lambs) and the fantastically funny stand-up Lewis Black, who steals the show.
It’s light-hearted and seems to be in the tardyon of the absurd 1980s college comedies. It’s strength lies in the laughs.
